Berkhamsted and Aldbury

The greatest thanks should go toMargaret for leading the walk on her 10th anniversary as "Leaderene". What could be better than a walk through the Hertfordshire countryside with magnificent autumn colour, an efficient pub providing good food and drink and the sun shining for much of the way. And for some of us a quick look at Berkhamstead Castle at the end. Plus the company and conversation of fellow participants...
By train, out on either 8.54 from Shepherds Bush overground, direct to Berkhamsted, arriving 9.32, or the 09.04 from Euston, arriving Berkhamsted 9.42; and back regular trains from Berkhamsted. By car Berkhamsted is best approached from the A41. Station car park is £6.
am 5 1/2 miles past Berkhamsted Castle across Berkhamsted Common to Ashridge, through Aldbury Common to Aldbury village. pm 4 1/2 miles return by Toms Hill to Northchurch Common, back into Berkhamsted along the canal. The walk is mainly flattish but there are two or three short gentle climbs, and descents. Some mud, 2- 3 stiles.
The Valiant Trooper in Aldbury. Booked, but we do not need to preorder so no menus. But if you can let me know if you plan to come I can confirm numbers. If you are not sure just turn up anyway!
Aldbury is only about 1 mile from Tring Station so if you would like to do half the walk I can direct you to or from the station.
