Hammersmith and Chiswick

First huge thanks to Sue Shaw for her interesting, extremely well researched exploration of Hammersmith and Chiswick, which we all thought we knew!
9 in the morning, 13 for lunch and 8 in the afternoon. As you can see the day was enhanced by steady snow fall, but we all kept dry, no one fell over and we had a delicious lunch.
Dare I say the rest of you are wimps!
Hammersmith is on the Piccadilly, District and Hammersmith and City (Separate entrance) Lines
CHECK TFL FOR SUNDAY CLOSURES
We shall be walking about 5 miles in the morning and 3 in the afternoon, all on good surfaces and definitely no hills. There is a wide variety of mainly late 19th and early 20th century housing. We start by going down to the river at Hammersmith, along Hammersmith Mall, away from the river through Ravenscourt Park, then west to Bedford Park for a short exploration. We then cross Acton Green (site of the Battle of Turnham Green in 1642) and make our way to Kew Bridge and Kew Gardens tube station, for lunch at the Tap on the Line. (we have the table until 2pm)
After lunch it’s along Strand on the Green, through the gardens of Chiswick House and back to the river at Chiswick Mall. We finish at Sue’s flat in Prebend Mansions for tea and mince pies, made in her new kitchen.
The Tap on the Line pub next to Kew Gardens station. We have been asked to pre-order so please see menu below and let Sue know your choice The table is booked between 12 noon and 2pm, and not a minute longer.
We have had to pay a deposit to the pub, so it will probably be easiest to pay the food balance as a group. It may be easiest if people have cash. Please let Sue Shaw have your orders by Thursday 7 December evening. suecochraneshaw@gmail.com
