Brookwood Necropolis
I think 12 of us enjoyed a slow ramble round the remarkable cemetery at Brookwood last Sunday. We found the graves of Zara Hadid and John Singer Sargent but were sorry not to find several other interesting memorials. We were privileged to be invited into the St Edwards Greek Orthodox Church by a very informative and kind priest. We then had an excellent pub lunch, unbooked, at the busy White Hart in Pirbright. I have made a contribution to the Cemetery Society on behalf of the London Walking Group.
Here is a link for the regular guided walks for anyone who missed last Sunday, or is interested to have a better tour of the cemetery.
Train: Out Waterloo 10.07, Clapham Junction 10.15 arrives Brookwood 10.51
Back: hourly trains back to Clapham Junction and Waterloo at 45 minutes past the hour
There is a car park, travel time about 50 minutes from West London.
A stroll round this fascinating 500 acre cemetery, finding the graves of John Singer Sargent, Rebecca West, William de Morgan and other Victorian luminaries. Also military cemeteries, a Parsee cemetery and an extensive Muslim cemetery. And more recently Boris Berezovsky and Zaha Hadid.
2 local pubs, The Nags head and the White Hart have bar snacks available.
This is an extra walk to compensate for the loss of sunday's walk -cancelled due to snow
